Brooklyn Chinese Wedding with Lynnae & Danny
Now this has been a wedding that we have been waiting for all year. You may remember back in January when we had the privilege of capturing Lynnae and Danny’s Manhattan Wedding (and if you haven’t you so should right after you see this post)
. According to Chinese tradition, a Chinese Fortune Teller 睇相佬 must choose your wedding date for the “best luck in a marriage”. No matter what day they choose is the day that the couple should be married… even if it is on an Tuesday afternoon! For Lynnae and Danny that date ended up on a Friday in January.
They were super excited BUT it was very short notice to be able to gather friends and family, so they decided that this would be a great opportunity to blend culture, tradition, friends and family by hosting an epic Chinese wedding reception. For this style, we wanted to keep the vivid colors popping as red and gold were the main focus and very traditional to Chinese wedding ceremonies. Lynnae looked stunning in her red wedding gown and it was so exciting for us to capture so many different traditions. From the Lion Dance to the ten (or eleven, I couldn’t keep count) course meal and gifted jewelry, we loved every moment! The theme of this wedding was the
Phoenix and the Dragon, which are the Chinese symbols of luck and harmony in marriage. Danny and Lynnae used those symbols subtly through out the wedding. It was so exciting to get to celebrate again with them and we just adore this couple!
Traditionally, the groom’s mother gifts the bride a bit of green that is incorporated into her hair.
LOVE everything about this image…
There isn’t anything more romantic than a Bride getting ready with her Groom.
Also a beautiful gift, these gold wedding bangles have the Dragon and Phoenix detailing.
We had to stop over to Danny’s family home for some homemade soup by Mom.
This little series with the runners is very special as both Danny and Lynne are athletes and Danny proposed to Lynne at a competition….He totally shocked her when she won first place for females at the series championship held on Governors Island. While up on the podium accepting her award, Danny stepped up and in front of the entire crowd and got down on one knee. It was a big surprise to Lynnae and even more exciting as both of her parents were in the crowd as well as Danny’s Mother. In her own words Lynnae says “I have achieved more than I ever imagined I could because of his belief in me and how hard he pushes me. He has been my trainer, coach and best friend, so I can’t think of any better way to make our engagement more special.”
And one of our all time favs…
This traditional lion dance was so amazing and all a huge surprise to all of the guests!
Another great Chinese tradition is where the bride and groom are toasted by each table!
